Happy Birthday Memere!

Memere planned a full day of fun for her birthday. First stop, church at Londonderry Presbyterian and then off to “lunch” at Avandi’s followed by swimming and a trip to Sullivan’s for ice cream. I brought the boys home for a sleepover so she can sleep in tomorrow.

Berry Picking

We went picking again! This time with Me, Albert & Patrick. Parlee was closed, so we headed over to Lull Farm in Hollis. The berries were tart and delicious. It was lots of fun, with the exception of the incredibly loud bird call box!Of course the best berries were right next to it. We cooled off at DQ and went swimming together the next day.

Maddie’s sixth birthday was a fun experience for all in the Farland house. Christy made a special doll cake for Madelyn. Later, Madelyn’s friend from school joined us at the Disney on Ice show at the Verizon Wireless and everyone had a great time.

First Snow

The Farlands could not resist going out to play in the First Snow of the winter season. The girls were already in their jams from decorating the tree and we threw on their boots for a quick snowball fight.

Christmas Time is Here

We have a tree! It’s no Rockefeller Center special, but it is a tree none the less. It would seem that the artificial tree manufacturers have finally realized that not everybody in America has 3,000 sq. ft. homes. The girls loved decorating the tree and you could say, it’s starting to feel a bit like Christmas around here.

Madelyn earned her first Daisy Scout petal! The family baked delicious chocolate chip cookies for new neighbors and care packages. It was lots of fun and she was so very proud!

Madelyn gets her ears pierced

Madelyn got her ears pierced for my birthday. She was so adorable climbing into the big chair and holding
onto their teddy bear and so brave! After she said it hurt a little more than expected, but I think she meant a little less than expected. She only cried for a minute. Ms. Ali put her hands on her big sisters shoulders and proclaimed how proud of her she was :-) We were off to the Disney Store for a treat and ice cream at Friendly’s.

Not So Small Anymore

I recently found this photo I made back when Sadie was still a puppy. She wasn’t much more than a few months old and that is one of the smaller Kongs you can buy. Both her and the toy are considerably larger these days. This photo was my first ever photoshop manipulation and would lead me to bigger and better projects down the rode.

Who Knew U6 Could Make For a Game?

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of enjoying one hell of a soccer game. The weather was absolutely fabulous and the competition even better. Madelyn’s team met their week 1 opponent for a rematch and while you’re not supposed to keep track, the team torched us to the tune of 20+ goals to 2. The majority of the scoring was done by a boy with whom Maddie played with last year and he was a force then. This year his game has only improved by leaps and bounds.

Things have changed a little since their first meeting. For one, the team has a new found appreciation for teamwork, passing, and an overall level of focus that I haven’t seen in any youth team as young as this one. Madelyn herself has developed in to quite the soccer star. Her ball handling skills are very good and what she lacks in intensity she makes up for in playing smart. Madelyn was a little disappointed that she didn’t get to score as many goals as she usually does, but she does have some appreciation for just how hard that game was. In week 1, Maddie was the only one who could even come close to challenging their micro Maradona, but this past Saturday one of her teammates not only went toe to toe with him, he outplayed him.

It sounds really silly to rave about the play of 6 year old soccer players, but I was impressed with the level of effort, teamwork, and cooperation I saw these kids exhibit. Kids this age are supposed to all mindlessly follow the bouncing ball all over the field, kick wildly at and miss the ball, and occasionally drift off in to never-never land at the passing of a butterfly. Of course, there was a little of all those things, but I also saw the kind of in-game communication some high school teams could only dream of. I heard kids shouting warnings to their teammates, calling for passes, and congratulating each other on their defensive play. I only wish the season wasn’t coming to an end so quickly. I think I might actually becoming a “Soccer Dad”. *Shudder*
